SHERMAN KILLING

Two Massachusetts men are due to be sentenced Wednesday for a drug-related killing in northern Maine. Marcus Asante, of Fitchburg, was convicted in November of the murder and robbery of an Oakfield man on Oct. 16, 2016. A second man, Darin Goulding, of Leominster, testified against him under a plea agreement with prosecutors. SENT: 130 words. UPCOMING: Will be updated after sentencing.

_ NIGHTCLUB FIRE: Rhode Island is marking the 16th anniversary of a nightclub fire that killed 100 people and injured more than 200. SENT.

_ INJURED CHILD: Child welfare officials in Rhode Island say a 1-year-old was brought to the hospital last week and her condition was probably the result of “maltreatment.”

_ DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR: Rhode Island’s current Democratic Party chairman is seeking re-election with no known challengers. SENT.

_ TEENAGER STABBED: A 16-year-old Massachusetts boy charged with fatally stabbing his 17-year-old cousin during a dispute that started as an argument over a pillow and blanket has been held without bail. SENT.

_ HAMPSHIRE COLLEGE-MERGER: A Massachusetts college that announced plans to seek a merger partner before it reaches a financial crisis has announced its first round of layoffs. SENT.

_ CHILD FLU DEATH: Public health officials in Massachusetts have confirmed a third pediatric flu death in the state this season. SENT.
