Freighter destroys railway bridge in Germany
BERLIN (AP) — Authorities say a freighter has smashed into a railway bridge over the Ems river in northern Germany, taking out a section of the span and causing millions of euros (dollars) of damage.
Police on Friday were interviewing the captain of the freighter and others to try to determine a cause for Thursday evening’s accident about 60 kilometers (40 miles) west of Bremen, the dpa news agency reported.
The Ems was shut to shipping traffic following the incident but was expected to be reopened Friday. Train passengers were being routed around the damaged area on buses.
