PSC sets hearing for utility proposal
CHARLESTON — The Public Service Commission of West Virginia has scheduled a hearing at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, for the consideration of a proposed stipulation and agreement for settlement with the West Virginia American Water Co. concerning savings that resulted from the 2017 federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
The PSC also directed other utilities conducting settlement negotiations to file proposed settlements at or before the hearing and to be prepared to discuss the settlements at the hearing.
West Virginia American Water announced its proposal, which includes the possibility of lower rates for customers, months after originally proposing a rate hike in April following the tax cuts.
In its original filing, West Virginia American Water proposed a new, proactive approach to addressing lead service lines as part of its commitment to maintain excellent water quality and protect customer health and safety. These efforts included infrastructure improvements that accounted for more than half of the requested rate increase.
